cfg or not ? that is the question
Hello all, i see that many players have a cfg (except me) so i would like to know why is it better to have a cfg/or not ?
What are the advantages ? How choose a cfg ? Are we better with ?

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
Advantages:
increasing fps in many cases
reducing lags
removing many "useless" things/informations, like promote rewards, voices...
see better the enemie on the map
have some shortcuts wich make easier to do some actions
contain all your config, so when you reinstall the game you don't spend 1 hour selecting the settings again...
disadvantages:
if you remove the atmospheric effects you run sometimes in the enemy arty while you think it's an allied arty...
the game seems uglier and can look insipid
Advantages win!

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
those disadvantages are not true you can put those on or off. And with a config you can even let the game look better so not true rousback depends on what kind of config you use.
Some important advantages for me are :
You can hear where the enemy walks better.
You can see the enemy better.
Spawn-selector
Class-selector
Spawn-timer
Better fps
For me no loading times between maps.
It makes the game easier but a config doesn't make you aim better.

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
Usually "configs" makes the game uglier because people are using them to earn some fps...

FPS are not important as long as you have it stable over 60-70. FPS = Frames per second so basiclly if you have 1 fps you will see 1 screen per second which would be terrible and very laggy all the way up to maybe 30-40 you see a diffrent in the FPS but above you won't see alot of diffrence since the brain can't handle over 20-30 FPS at a time. I heard people say they can see a diffrence in 300 and 200 FPS which is complete bullshit. Most players tries to get it to stable 125. Ofc there is alot of other things effecting if you think things laggs or not :s

@phoenix: not sure if it works but should:
bind 1 "weaponbank 1;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 2 "weaponbank 2;cg_autoReload 1"
bind 3 "weaponbank 3;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 4 "weaponbank 4;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 5 "weaponbank 5;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 6 "weaponbank 6;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 7 "weaponbank 7;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 1 "weaponbank 1;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 2 "weaponbank 2;cg_autoReload 1"
bind 3 "weaponbank 3;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 4 "weaponbank 4;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 5 "weaponbank 5;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 6 "weaponbank 6;cg_autoReload 0"
bind 7 "weaponbank 7;cg_autoReload 0"

well you should come to my house and see the difference between 125 fps and 100 I can feel it and I can see it. It's weird I only have it with wolfenstein , with other games I have 30+ fps and it feels smoother then wolfenstein. And fps are important, they locked fps in 2.60b on 125 because when you had 250 fps you had a advantage I don't know where I read the article. Same for cod4 with 125 fps you are not able to do all jumps in cod4 with 250 fps you are.
Weird thing is if I play with 125 fps cod4 and then return to Et and I have 125 fps it looks like I lag.
The more fps you have how better the game runs how smoother it feels.

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
CoD4 is a newer game im quite sure it uses Motion blur that makes it looks smoother with less FPS. But no you will NOT see the diffrence on 200 FPS and 100 FPS it's impossible, technically you can see them ofc but you will not notice a diffrence cause your brain does not handle all of the frames. Ofc your brain can trick you into thinking you see a diffrence cause you think higher = better. But no like i said it is IMPOSSIBLE to notice the diffrence in 125 FPS and 250 FPS especially in new games and even in ET. And if you uses a flat screen TFT screen then you will not see the diffrence in 100 and 125 FPS cause the screen doesn't even show that fast :s If you have 999 FPS but the screen HZ is 85 then the screen only shows 85 FPS not 999. some TFT and mostly CRT screens shows 120hz but not higher.
A new game example is like Halo 3 is locked to 30 FPS still you won't think it laggs even tho its only 30 FPS. If your screen only can shows 60 frames per second then how could it matter if you have 125 fps if the screen can't show them?

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
I didn't say you can see it from 125 to 250 fps but you can jump further... also on 2.60b it's locked on 125 because you could shoot better with 250 fps i try to find that article. But i still can see the difference with 90 fps or 125 fps. I don't have the fps meter on but I still know when my fps is lower then 125. It can be my computer because when i am at kayos his house 60 fps looks smooth. I even could make a movie on xfire to show you :>
It looks like my mouse shocks with 70 fps.

Re: cfg or not ? that is the question
Seriously who needs configs when there is options in game :s I dont use cfg cause its useless, I already have steady 125 and i dont see any laggs. Only good thing in cfg is that you can make scripts like team switcher, spawn place, class selector and stuff
